Meet SFK’s New Maryland Association of Student Councils Representatives

Abigail Duvall and Chad Leo have been named Maryland Association of Student Councils (MASC) representatives for Sugar Free Kids Maryland this school year. These representatives serve as the voice of students on the coalition’s executive committee. They are responsible for helping steer the direction of the Sugar Free Kids and will have input in all efforts.

Abigail Duvall is a 7th grader at Mill Creek Middle School in Lusby, Md.

What are the issues that got you interested in teaming with Sugar Free Kids Maryland?
“I feel as though kids in society today eat way too much sugar and it affects our health. More kids are having problems at such a young age because they don’t realize what they are eating and are not provided with healthy food.”

What are your plans for the future?
“I would like to either go to the Naval Academy for engineering or to Harvard to become a lawyer. I would like to pursue one of those jobs and maybe start a school.”

Chad Leo is a junior at Patuxent High School and lives in Solomons, Md. He is returning to Sugar Free Kids Maryland after serving on the board from 2014 to 2016.

Why is it important for you to work with Sugar Free Kids Maryland?
“I believe that the children are the future and the future deserves to be happy, healthy and wise. We have control of all three of those traits and it’s on us to stand up and make it happen. SFK is fighting for the children who cannot fight for themselves — that’s what I’m most excited about.”

What are your plans for the future?
I hope to go on to become a lawyer so that I can fight for every American! Post high school, I plan on attending college, entering the Air Force and pursuing my dream of being the voice of the voiceless and advocating for the right decisions.
